The Cat’s Meow: A Guide to Lakeland’s Cat Cafés
If you’re a 33813 cat lover looking for a unique weekend activity, or you’re working from home in Dixieland and need a change of scenery that includes fur and caffeine, you’re in luck. Lakeland currently has two permanent cat sanctuaries where the coffee is hot and the residents are adoptable.
1. Purrology Cafe (South Lakeland)

Located right on S. Florida Ave (near the 33813 border), Purrology is a favorite for families.
-
The Vibe: It’s bright, clean, and very welcoming. They have a dedicated “Cat Room” separate from the cafe area to keep things sanitary (and to give the cats a break if they need it).
-
The “Amber” Tip: They are big on community. They host events like “Kitten Yoga” and even private parties. If you have kids who are obsessed with cats but you aren’t ready to commit to a permanent “resident” yet, this is the perfect afternoon out.

2. Kitty Cat Lounge (Downtown/East Orange St)

This spot has a serious “artistic LKLD” vibe. Nestled near Downtown, it feels like a cozy living room where you just happen to be surrounded by ten new feline best friends.
-
The Vibe: Vintage decor, retro vibes, and a very “chill” atmosphere. It’s a great spot to bring a book or your laptop and just decompress.
-
Why it’s special: They partner with local rescues to ensure their cats are healthy, socialized, and ready for their forever homes in neighborhoods like Lake Morton or Southgate.

The Wildcard: Botany Cats (The Mobile Legend)
I have to mention Botany Cats. While not a “stationary” cafe, this is Florida’s first mobile cat lounge.
-
The Setup: It’s a beautifully renovated camper named Demeter that pops up at the Lakeland Farmers Curb Market, The Joinery, and Cob & Pen.
-
The Plus: They sell pet-safe houseplants! As a crafter and plant lover, this is my personal heaven. You can cuddle a kitten and buy a non-toxic fern for your kitchen window in one stop.

Amber’s Professional “Cat Person” Advice:
As a former Vet Tech, I love cat cafes because they allow cats to show their “true personalities” outside of a cage. However, remember:
-
Reservations are Key: These spots have capacity limits to keep the cats from getting stressed. Always book ahead!
-
Wash Your Hands: Use the sanitizer provided. We want to keep our local LKLD kitty population healthy and free of “hitchhiking” germs.
-
Respect the Nap: If a cat is sleeping, let them be. There’s always another one ready to play.
The Next Step: Want to go spend an hour at the Kitty Cat Lounge but feel guilty leaving your dog at home? Atta Boy! can swing by for a “Doggy Solo Date” walk while you get your “Cat Fix” or we will do your own cats maintenance ( food, water, litterbox cleaning) while you go cheat on your current cats haha!
