Why We Can’t Always Do What You Do (Even If We’d Love To)

Hi friends, Amber here 👋
After 40,000+ pet care visits (yep, forty thousand!), our team at Atta Boy! Animal Care has learned a thing or two about what works—and what doesn’t—when caring for pets in other people’s homes.
I’ve got a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Care from the University of Florida and have spent my entire career surrounded by everything from Boa Constrictors to lapdogs. So when I say we design our routines and policies with care, consistency, and animal wellness in mind, I mean it.
That said, one of the hardest parts of our job is explaining why we sometimes can’t do things exactly the way you when you are at home. It’s never because we don’t want to—it’s because our job is to make sure your pet (and home!) stays safe, our team stays on schedule, and your visit meets our quality standards.
Here are a few examples of where we have to draw the line—and why:
🐾 Client Request: “Don’t scoop the pee clumps”
We know it might sound strange when we WANT ( yes, WANT to do this super fun chore- hah!) to scoop every bit of urine from your cat’s litter box. But here’s the deal: we use pee counts as a health check. If we notice your cat hasn’t urinated or pooped as expected, that’s an immediate red flag that something could be wrong—especially with cats, where urinary blockages can turn dangerous fast.
So while it might unnecessary to fully clean the boxes at EACH VISIT- this policy helps us monitor your cat’s well-being and gives you valuable insight if something changes while you’re away.
⏰ Client Request: “Can you do it exactly this way?”
Sometimes we get requests for highly specific routines—things like hand-feeding one piece of kibble at a time, or walking a particular route that makes us run out of time to do other parts of the visit ( or it just gets SUPER boring for the pup to walk the SAME route every time) We totally understand that you have a rhythm that works for you!
But our visits are timed and scheduled carefully to make sure every client gets the full, paid-for attention they deserve. If we spent 20 extra minutes doing one pet’s routine, we’d risk being late for another. That’s why we stick to efficient, consistent systems—ones that are still loving, safe, and thorough, but realistic within your reserved time slot.
📸 Client Request: “Can you stop sending so many photos?”
We get this one sometimes too! While we never want to overwhelm you, our photo and visit reports aren’t just for fun—they’re a key part of our internal policy and quality control.
Photos verify that a sitter was there, that your pet looks healthy, bowls filled and that your home is secure. They’re our version of “trust, but verify”—a system that keeps accountability high and lets our leadership team review care quality in real time.
Of course, we’re happy to make a note of your ideals- but even if we removed the 2-12 photos we attach it would only eliminated maybe 1-2 minutes of work- but we’ll always keep some level of photo documentation as part of our service standard.
At the end of the day, these practices are what keep your pet care consistent, professional, and safe—every single time.
We want you to feel comfortable trusting us to follow our proven systems, knowing that everything we do (and don’t do) has your pet’s best interest at heart.
Thanks for trusting us with your furry (or feathered, or scaled!) family.
We’re proud to be the team you rely on—one visit, one walk, and one “good boy” at a time.
💚
